Urban Bird Protection
Resources for NYC and Beyond
Wild Bird Fund
The WBF is NYC’s only wildlife rehabilitation center, providing medical care and rehabilitation to sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals with the goal of releasing them back into the wild. Treating over 9,500 animals annually—including songbirds, raptors, and urban wildlife.
Should you encounter a bird in distress, contact Wild Bird Fund for guidance on how to safely transport it to their care.
Phone: 646-306-2862
If you find an injured or sick bird and cannot take it to WBF yourself, you can email injuredbird@nycbirdalliance.org and inquire whether there is a volunteer available to transport it.
If you find a fledgling hopping on the ground, it likely does not need to be rescued. The following page can help you assess the situation and determine the appropriate course of action. https://www.wildbirdfund.org/how-to-help/rescue/
NYC Bird Alliance
Through conservation, advocacy, and over 200 educational programs each year, they work to create a city where birds and people can thrive together. The organization also offers a range of volunteer opportunities, from community science projects to habitat restoration.
The Bird Alliance website provides step-by-step guidance on helping injured birds, making windows more bird-friendly, choosing alternatives to harmful rodenticides, supporting the Lights Out campaign during migration seasons, reporting bird window collision victims and more. nycbirdalliance.org
Audubon
Make your yard more bird-friendly by choosing locally native plants, which brim with nutritious insects, berries, nectar, and seeds and give birds vital refuge.

is a global environmental organization that focuses on preserving lands and waters to protect the diversity of life on Earth. Purchasing land along bird migration routes to protect it from development is one key factor.
